Former Resident visa (subclass 151)

With this visa you can -
  • stay in Australia permanently
  • work and study in Australia
  • enrol in Australia’s public health care scheme, Medicare
  • sponsor your relatives to come to Australia
  • travel to and from Australia for up to 5 years from the date of grant as long as the travel facility remains valid
  • apply for Australian citizenship, if eligible

Resident Return visa (subclass 155 & 157)

With this visa you can -
  • travel to and from Australia as a permanent resident until the travel facility of your visa expires
  • if you leave Australia after your permanent visa travel facility has expired, you will not be able to return to Australia as a permanent resident. If you wish to return to Australia as a permanent resident, you must apply for and be granted this visa before your arrival in Australia.
  • if you are already in Australia as a permanent resident, you do not need to apply for this visa if you do not wish to travel.
  • there are no limits on the number of Resident Return visas (RRV) you can apply for.

Provisional Resident Return visa ( subclass 159)

With this visa you can -
  • live and work only in Norfolk Island for six years and six months from the time the visa is granted or until the end of 31 December 2023, whichever occurs first
  • You may travel to and enter Australia on this visa during this time
  • live elsewhere in Australia for the purpose of study if all of the following apply:
    • you have not turned 25
    • you are a dependent child of a person who is ordinarily resident in Norfolk Island
    • you meet, or met, the requirements of condition 8105, relating to students engaging in work. (Note: condition 8105 is not imposed on this visa.)
